Hoffman had admitted in the past his problems with drugs during various phases of his life; last year he entered for ten days in a detoxification clinic.
As he told to the website TMZ , he had begun a year earlier to take pills and had finished sniffing heroin.
The Screenwriter David Katz was who found the lifeless body of Hoffman in his home in the New York neighbourhood of Greenwich Village and who alerted the emergency services shortly before noon, local time (10:00 of Ecuador), according to what police sources told to the ‘ The Wall Street Journal ‘.
Other media, however, indicate that the apartment where Hoffman was found was not his usual home, but a nearby apartment.
The New York Police Department is investigating the circumstances of the death, which are not official yet.
