Almost 13,000 Ecuadorians have been deported from North America

Posted On 08 Sep 2023
Approximately 13,000 Ecuadorians have been deported from the United States so far in 2023. This according to information from the Ecuadorian Undersecretary of Migration, an office attached to the Ministry of Government.

There are people who remain apprehended in the United States for up to four months.

Ecuadorians arrive every week on flights that are paid for by the Government of President Joe Biden. According to the US Department of Homeland Security, the value for housing, detention and deportation of each undocumented individual exceeds $11,000. There are even people who remain detained on US soil for up to four months.

In January and August 2022, the Ecuadorians deported by Washington were 1,326 compatriots. On the other hand, so far in 2023, there are already 12,959.

Once in Ecuador, citizens are received by Migration personnel, who carry out the review and refer the deportees to other State portfolios.

Ecuavisa details that all the deportees arrive at the José Joaquín de Olmedo airport in Guayaquil. The Foreign Ministry informs that they are not penalized for having left irregularly. However, the same does not happen with people who flee the country and have arrest warrants. In 2023, it was possible to capture 165 Ecuadorians who were expelled by the US government.
