An unusual transaction of $ 2.1 billion in the Central Bank
Posted On 24 May 2017

EcuadorNews:
The Central Bank and the Government have downplayed their outstanding account by $ 2,137.8 million. This is reflected in the first version of the Weekly Monetary Bulletin, published on the website of the Central Bank of Ecuador, updated on May 19. The curious thing is that in addition to reducing the amount owed by the Government to the Central Bank, the non-financial assets of the Central Bank have increased by nearly the same amount (2,136.5 million dollars).
This means that the bank admits goods as payment in payment for outstanding bills. So far the facts that are reflected in the accounting of the public institution: the Government debt with the CB has fallen in the last week while non-liquid assets (which are not cash) have increased by an equivalent amount.
