Ash Wednesday is Celebrated Today in Catholic Churches
Posted On 09 Mar 2011
According to the Roman Catholic Church’s calendar, Ash Wednesday is celebrated today, the first day of Lent before Easter time.
Today, believers are committed to fast, abstinence, prayer and those who attend mass will be marked with ashes on the forehead because it reminds us that human beings were made from dust and to dust we shall return. Palm Sunday comes after the 40 days, and Easter celebrations follow.
In Guayaquil, Ecuador, churches started their activities early in the morning and they have even extended mass schedules to serve hundreds of faithful people who attend to receive ashes.
