Assembly members from 21 provinces receive their credentials

Posted On 25 Oct 2023

The provincial assembly members of Guayas, Manabí and Pichincha will receive their credentials in the coming days. Those who already have them will not be able to start working until they are in possession, which still has no date.

The five assembly members of Azuay received their credentials this October 24, 2023.

The provincial delegations of 21 provinces delivered the credentials to the elected assembly members on October 24, 2023. With this, the names of 72 provincial assembly members are made official.

In the morning, the legislators from Esmeraldas, Los Ríos, Galapagos, Sucumbíos, Napo, Orellana, Pastaza, Morona Santiago, Zamora Chinchipe, Azuay and Imbabura received their documents. And in the afternoon, the assembly members of Carchi, Santo Domingo, Cotopaxi, Tungurahua, Bolívar, Chimborazo, Cañar, Loja, Santa Elena and El Oro.

Incumbent legislators, however, will not be able to begin work immediately. For the installation of the Assembly, it is necessary that the 137 already have their credentials.

According to the calendar set by the National Electoral Council (CNE), the delivery of credentials to provincial assembly members will continue this week. On Wednesday the 25th those from Guayas will be delivered, and on Thursday the 26th, those from Manabí.

The date for the delivery of credentials for national and foreign assembly members has not yet been defined. This depends on whether appeals are filed against the results for those dignities.

In fact, the scrutiny for those dignities is not over yet. Until 12:20 on October 24, 2023, two minutes of assembly members for Europe, Asia and Oceania were pending, and two more in that same constituency for national assembly members.

Once the CNE announces the results and if there are no resources, the delivery of credentials to the assembly members can be terminated. And only then can the National Assembly be installed.

Original note published on October 24, 2023 at 12:30 and updated at 17:40 with afternoon deliveries.
