Prosecutor’s Office begins investigation into the Prefecture of Pichincha

Posted On 26 Oct 2023
The Prosecutor’s Office began a preliminary investigation to investigate the alleged crime of embezzlement against Paola Pabón, prefect of Pichincha. The case would seek to compile elements of conviction to determine irregularities in the case of the hiring of Soledad Padilla, former collaborators of the former vice president of Ecuador Jorge Glas, in the Prefecture of Pichincha.

According to recordings of dialogues spread on social networks whose voices are attributed to Glas and Padilla, the former collaborator would have worked between 2019 and August 2023 in the Pichincha Prefecture and in parallel would have provided services for Glas while he was in prison serving sentences for corruption.

The Comptroller’s Office has already made observations to that sectional body after an audit in which anomalies were established in the hiring of personnel, non-compliance with biometric records and excessive salary payments.

Pabón ‘s response came through his social networks. On his ” X ” account (formerly Twitter ) he wrote: “As appropriate in accordance with the Law, we have appeared and indicated a box in the investigation carried out by the @FiscaliaEcuador. All the openness and collaboration so that whatever they want to investigate is investigated. There is no need for media shows. All information is available to the prosecutor in charge.

Diario Expreso reports that the official sent a letter to Hernán Flores Pesántez, provincial prosecutor of Pichincha in which she appointed three legal professionals to represent her in the case.

Likewise, in a video uploaded on the social network ” X ” (formerly Twitter ) he spoke about gender violence and the commitment to fight against all forms of violence and indicated that it is time to start from home. He highlighted the program that that organization has with protocols on these issues.

«I want to ratify our commitment to transparency. We will provide all facilities to deliver all the information necessary to prosecute crimes, not people. Stop re-victimizing women subject to gender violence in any space,” she concluded.
