Assembly Session Adjourned Due to Lack of Security

Posted On 05 Oct 2010

QUITO – Several military were present outside the headquarters of the Ecuadorian Legislative Power in order to preserve security, while in the Main Assembly a short meeting proved and denounced the damages people on the Assembly were exposed to on last Thursday and exposed solutions. The Legislative Escort was taking care of the Main Assembly as well.

In representation of the President of the Assembly, Fernando Cordero, the First Vicepresident of the Ecuadorian Assembly, Irina Cabezas, suspended the 62nd Session of the Main Assembly on Tuesday morning, due to “lack of security”. Cabezas pointed out it was neccesary to reorganize the Legislative Escort in order to guarantee there won’t be more violence in the work meetings, like the ones that took place last Thursday.

Cordero showed a video of the takeover of the Main Assembly where people present at the Assemble last Thrusday were beaten and abused, and called the facts regrettable. On the Main Assembly today, it was informed that the files with the conversations of several policemen will be delivered to the prosecutors so they can be added to the investigation file of the police revolt.

On Sunday, the reform on the Law that apparently caused the strikes of the Police (Ley Orgánica de Servicios Públicos) was approved.
