Association of Banana Exporters of Ecuador rejects rate adjustment in Puerto Bolívar
Ecuadornews:
Through a statement, the Association of Exporters of Bananas of Ecuador (AEBE) rejected the alleged initiative of Yilportecu, the concessionaire of the seaport of Puerto Bolivar (El Oro), to increase the rate of 2018 from $ 0.12 a $ 0.24 per load in bulk and $ 0.28 per palletized banana load.
In addition, they were worried about the loss of competitiveness and markets. “There are other countries that can take their fruit to international markets, at lower costs … An increase in costs of 30% of the exportable supply (El Oro zone) can not be transferred to the international buyer and will threaten the sustainability of production. Especially small producers, who add up to 1,688 (…) and generate more than 80 million boxes annually.” (I)
