A plane crash in Russia resulted in 36 dead and one wounded. The Yak-42 jet, carrying the local team of ice hockey team Lokomotiv (Yaroslavl) on board, fell to the ground while taking off in Western Russia on Wednesday, officials said.
The plane crashed shortly after leaving the airport from the city of Yaroslavl, next to the Volga river, about 240 kilometers (150 miles) northeast of Moscow, said the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
The hockey team was heading for Minsk, the capital of Belarus, where they were going to play on Thursday against Dynamo from Minsk in the opening game of the season in the Continental Hockey League, integrated by several ex-Soviet nations.
