August marks the beginning of definitions in political parties
Posted On 01 Aug 2016

On August 6 Pachakutik will be the first party to conduct internal elections in order to choose its presidential candidate for the 2017 elections.
Adherents who wish to nominate wil have to go to the provincial offices of the National Electoral Council (CNE) that day.
Pachakutik has five candidates: Salvador Quishpe, prefect of Zamora Chinchipe; Patricio Zambrano, leader of Manabi; Clever Jimenez, former legislator; Lourdes Tiban, current legislator; and Carlos Perez, president of the ECUARUNARI. Tiban hopes that this democratic process takes hold the structure of the movement, but fears that, depending on the results, there is the possibility of a fragmentation.
The winner of this process will take part in other primary elections, that of the National Agreement for Change. This alliance focuses on center-leftist political and social movements.
