Banana farmers insist on tariff revision

Posted On 19 Jul 2017

Ecuadornews:

A meeting will be held today in Quito between the Minister of Transport and Public Works Paúl Granda and banana exporters and producers. This session will confirm the realization of the so-called “March in Defense of Production, Subsistence, and Life,” scheduled for Wednesday afternoon in Machala.
The freezing of tariffs in force since May 8th for banana export services together with the review of the port concession process will be the topics to be discussed today.
In the Cantonal Assembly, which met last Friday and featured the presence of representatives of the banana sector and the concessionaire YilportEcu SA, it was known that there were still no satisfactory results regarding the proposals related to the tariffs increase for services in Puerto Bolivar.
Moreover, it was known that the YilportEcu concessionaire keeps an unwavering stand. Last May the company increased rates from $ 0.13 to $ 0.20 per box, and in September these would rise to $ 0.27. (I)
