Berlinale rewards films from China and Mexico
“Black Coal Thin Ice” thriller by Chinese director Diao Yinan about a policeman who falls in love with a killer alleged won on Saturday the Golden Bear at the 64th Berlinale, while “Güeros” of the Mexican Alonso Ruizpalacios won the award for premium the best opera.
In addition, Liao Fan, lead actor of ‘black carbon, thin ice’, won the Silver Bear for Best Actor. The plot of the film is told through flashbacks and is developed in the 90s in northern China.
“I was glad and thought that would be all,” said Diao Yinan, who did not expect to win maximum reward in Berlin and neither knew when his Actor Liao Fan had been awarded.
For its part, the Mexican Ruizpalacios Alonso stated that ‘Güeros’, “was made with friends.” This was the only Latin American film honored at the Berlinale.
The film, whose script took three years to write and was filmed in black and white, tells the journey of two brothers, played by Tenoch Huerta and Sebastian Aguirre, and a friend (Leonardo Ortizgris) looking for a musician of Mexican rock who they revere.
