Bolt won the “hand in hand challenge” against Quinonez
At 09:45 today (Ecuadorian time) Jamaican Usain Bolt won the 150-meter sprint competition of the event that was part of a promotional campaign carried out by the organizers of the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games. Bolt managed to finish the race in 14.42 seconds, but did not break his own record of 14.32 in that category.
Alex Quinonez, who hasn’t been involved in athletic official events in more than seven months, came in last. The company that sponsors him, Lateral SE, wrote on its Twitter account: “With the support of all Ecuadorians and his sponsors, Alex Quinonez, is already among the world elite athletes. This is just the beginning!”
The “hand in hand Challenge“, as the event was called, was played on an improvised runway across the Copacabana beach, facing the Atlantic Ocean. The transmission was made by the local TV Station Globo. Besides Bolt and Quinonez, also ran the Antiguan Daniel Bailey and Brazilian Bruno de Barros, who was picked yesterday from a previous round between athletes of that country.
