Businessmen and politicians ask to review the rates in Puerto Bolívar

Posted On 19 Jul 2017

Ecuadornews:

The productive sector and the political authorities of El Oro province demand that the government of Lenin Moreno enforces the previous fares in Puerto Bolívar and the revision of the concession with the Turkish company Yilportecu.
Without resolutions and after four hours of dialogue, a meeting held in Quito between the Minister of Transport and Public Works Paúl Granda, delegates of banana and shrimp farmers, the mayor of Machala Carlos Falquez Aguilar, and legislators Carlos Falquez and Henry Kronfle (PSC), ended.
The concern of these actors arose following the signing of the public-private alliance with the Turkish company Yilportecu during the government of Rafael Correa, the same that entails the management of Puerto Bolívar, for 50 years, and that would have increased the value of 70 tariffs.
For the mayor, this “goes against competitiveness,” because he believes that banana farmers, who generate $ 650 million in foreign exchange, will prefer to move their production to the port of Guayaquil looking for lower costs. (I)
