In order to reactivate the country’s economy , affected by the covid-19 pandemic, the productive sectors encourage citizens to purchase products and services made in Ecuador.

Campaign to choose national products

The campaign is an initiative of the Much Better Ecuador Corporation , and has the support of the Federation of Chambers of Industry of the country and the Association of Textile Industry of Ecuador (AITE).

“It seeks to regain the pride that Ecuadorians have in ours. The best way is to consume the products that are manufactured here and that have the Much Better Footprint of Ecuador, ”said Pablo Zambrano , executive president of the Pichincha Chamber of Industries.

The leader assured that the situation of the Ecuadorian economy , due to the covid-19 effect , could decrease up to 10% of the Gross Domestic Product

The losses of the productive sector exceed the figures of $ 12,804 million foreseen in a first scenario. “More than $ 15,000 million in sales have been lost in Ecuador.”

The problem endangers the country’s jobs , “which is why it is necessary to generate a productive strategy that allows promoting production. Whether from national or foreign investments ”.

For her part, Caterina Costa , president of the Guayaquil Chamber of Industries , highlighted this effort that seeks to raise public awareness .

In a globalized economy there is no room for products or services that do not generate significant pride . “For that reason we offer consumers the best prices with the best quality .”

It ensures that the productive sectors are not on the side of protectionism, because this measure only generates short-term benefits . He believes that competition is the only way to be sure of receiving quality products. For this reason, the sector embraces globalization and all the challenges that come with it.

The production chains are strongly intertwined; 45% are related to intermediate products, 18% of raw materials and supplies come from primary sectors and 34% from services. “We are chained to provide a better product,” says Costa.

AITE Executive President Javier Díaz considers that the Ecuadorian State should also buy products made in Ecuador. “The public purchase must be 100% Ecuadorian, everything that Ecuador manufactures.”

Díaz believes that if Ecuadorian products are not consumed and imported products are given privilege, “we are going to have a serious social problem of unemployment .”

Zambrano considers that the reactivation is not immediate but gradual, highlighted the initiative of the Reactívate Ecuador loan that encourages micro and small entrepreneurs . It also urges the State to support the medium and large sectors . “We require that support, the problem of all companies has been the lack of liquidity.”

Footprint Much Better Ecuador

The executive director of the Much Better Ecuador Corporation, Mónica Malo, presented the initiative of the entity, which for 15 years has been working to promote Ecuadorian products and services.

Among the statistical data , he indicated that 350 million products come out each month with the Much Better Ecuador Footprint ; 515 brands have that footprint, until December 2019 they generated around 92,000 jobs.

The cost of membership is according to the billing, size or type of company. There is the seal for entrepreneurs and different categories. “Any company can have the Mucho Mejor Ecuador logo ; we produce with quality, we have brands that compete in international markets, ”said Malo.

Zambrano believes that it is essential that Ecuadorians participate in this economic revival to maintain employment and guarantee the sustainability of companies and responsible consumption . ” ( I )
