Carlos Marx Carrasco proposes pardon for Cléver Jiménez and others accused
Posted On 25 Mar 2014
Yesterday afternoon, the Inter-American Commission on human rights (IACHR) ruled in favour of the request for precautionary action by Assemblyman Cléver Jiménez and the activists Fernando Villavicencio and Carlos Figueroa. In an interview with Andrés Carrión, the Minister for industrial relations, Carlos Marx Carrasco, said that “it is not binding, it is a recommendation and the IACHR is entitled to do so”, he also interceded for Jimenez asking the President the possibility of “a pardon as a generosity act of the maligned”.
The IACHR also alerted about the “muffler effect such decisions can have on the public debate and democratic control to the management of a ruler”.
For his part, Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño, ensures that the Commission is not competent to request precautionary measures.
