‘Checkmate IV’ against 68 people involved in 350 crimes
Two citizens of Peruvian nationality, a former ‘most wanted’ of Pichincha and another former member of the ‘Mama Lucha’ band are listed as leaders of criminal organizations dismantled early yesterday in a mega-operation conducted in seven provinces.
The individuals are part of the 68 people who were detained during 82 raids carried out in Pichincha, Imbabura, Canar, Esmeraldas, El Oro, Sucumbíos and Azuay. The raids occurred during the operation “Jaque Mate IV,’ which includes links 70, 71, 72, 73 and 74, through which ten criminal gangs were dismantled.
According to Interior Minister José Serrano, these organizations committed 350 crimes in the last 24 months.
Investigations would have determined that the 68 arrested detainees committed crimes in national territory in the modality of sacapintas, they also robbed homes, cars, financial institutions and the smuggling of goods.
The mega-operation started at 1:00 am simultaneously with the deployment of 400 agents from different units of the National Police, in coordination with the prosecution.
In the capital 25 raids were conducted, during which 26 people, including two citizens of Peruvian nationality, listed as ringleaders were arrested.
