Child adoption by homosexual couples is approved in Colombia
The ruling by the Plenary Chamber of the Colombian Constitutional Court, in which the adoption of a child by a homosexual couple was approved, led the way in this country for that unties a lot of applications in that regard.
This caused that the most conservative sectors and close to the church, react against this decision, arguing that it represents a progress for the deprotection of children and the mismatch of the family concept. The high court ruled in favor of Ana Leiderman and Verónica Botero, considering that one of them is the biological mother of the child.
This decision will only serve in cases in which one of the applicants is the mother or the biological father of the child, and although this ruling does not involve the entire GLBTI population, it will serve as a precedent for future cases.
