Cléver Jimenez and his team receive precautionary measures by the IACHR
The Assemblyman Cléver Jimenez and the activists Fernando Villavicencio and Carlos Figueroa, yesterday received precautionary measures by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).
The Constitutional Court declared to the three implicated as guilty for insulting President Rafael Correa. Through a 16-page document, the Commission presented yesterday afternoon the decision.
The agency argues that “the imposition of privative criminal sentence of freedom in this case creates a serious risk of irreparable harm to freedom of expression.” The Comission also requests Ecuador to “immediately suspend the effects of the decision by the National Court, until the IACHR has ruled on the individual request.”
In the same way, a report on a maximum period of 15 days upon the adoption of precautionary measures is required and the updating of such information regularly.
