Closely contested elections in 18 cantons

votaciones-reñidas-cantonesThe Mayors elections in 18 cantons were competitive. The website of the National Electoral Council (CNE) reveals that in these populations the differences of votes ranging were from 1 up to 446 votes, according to the size of each jurisdiction and the numbers of their constituents.
 
The tighter result was recorded in Balsas, El Oro, where the candidate for Mayor by Creo, Andrés Pinto, won by 1 vote to Laura Celi, Avanza´s postulant. The first candidate to the Municipality managed 1,163 votes, 23.22 percent of the total votes. Celi captured 1,162, a 23.20%.
 
In addition, only 0.17 points allowed Rita Muñoz, from the Social Cristiano-Madera de Guerrero Party to win the Mayor of Isidro Ayora and to overcome Ignacio Cercado, from Suma, who sought re-election.
 
In Macará, Roberto Viñan of the movement Pueblo Cambio y Desarrollo overtook the candidate Pedro Quito, of the Macareño left-wing movement with 0.23 points of difference.
 
The other cantons in which there was a short gap between the two top candidates are Quinindé, Las Naves, San Pedro Huaca, La Maná, Eloy Alfaro, Isabela, San Cristóbal, Saraguro, Montecristi, Santa Ana, Santiago, Pedro Moncayo, Puerto Quito, San Miguel de los Bancos and Gualaceo
