CNE did not qualify Bucaram’s candidacy
Yesterday, the National Electoral Council (CNE for its Spanish acronym) decided that the candidacy of former president exiled in Panama, Abdala Bucaram Ortiz, along with his binomial Dennys Cevallos from the Partido Roldosista Ecuatoriano (PRE), will not be accepted in the elections of February 17, 2013.
The CNE, through its official website explained: “The binomial of Abdala Bucaram Ortiz and Dennys Cevallos Capurro, did not obtain qualification by having breached the constitutional provisions in legislation in the current legal system.”
Furthermore, the CNE criticized Cevallos’ candidacy because “she exercised her functions as Assemblywoman, after being registered as candidate and, despite being hindered, thus breaching the law. ”
While, spokesmen from PRE announced that between today and tomorrow the name of the person replacing Bucaram will be revealed, since they claimed to be prepared for this.
However, the CNE did qualified the binomial of the Partido Sociedad Patriotica (PSP) led by former President Lucio Gutierrez, and also the binomial of the Creando Oportunidades movement, represented by Guillermo Lasso. (MZ)
