Governor of Manabí Mariano Zambrano Segovia and his son, Mariano Zambrano Vera, who currently serves as a legislator of the Alianza PAIS Party, would have links with companies that have contracts with the State, as reported by the daily El Telégrafo. According to the newspaper, both officials would have incurred the crime of perjury by submitting their patrimonial statement, which omits their actions and positions in the Mardcomsa-Marzam Consortium, which would have contracts with the State.
The report, signed by the Journal’s Investigation Unit, contends that the website of the Department of Registrar of Companies states that the Marítima de Comercio Cía. Ltda. Mardcomsa company was established in 1996 and its headquarters are located in Portoviejo. The website also states that the company is a supplier of goods and services of the State. Until that time there was no problem because Zambrano Sr. did not hold any public position.
Zambrano Segovia was elected Governor in 2005 and holds the position until now. (I)
