Constitutional Court announces no call for a referendum
The Constitutional Court yesterday dismissed a call for a referendum for citizens to decide whether changes are applied to the 2008 Constitution of Montecristi.
16 issues are the ones that the Constitutional Court ruled, which need to be decided by the National Assembly. Among them, indefinite reelection for elected authorities. Only in one case, the ones that concerns the Protection Action (Section 88), the Constitutional Court decided to be treated via Constituent Assembly.
The President of the Court, Patricio Pazmino, announced the decision in a press conference in which no questions were allowed.
After that, the President of the Assembly, Gabriela Rivadeneira, said that they will “assume with responsibility”, the decision of the court.
