Controls against the illegal entry of Peruvian rice increase
While the Ecuadorian rice perpetuates in rice mills and finds no way out, the Peruvian grain is sold faster and cheaper. According to what Expreso advanced this week, rice farmers from Machala and the surrounding areas have trouble competing with neighboring production due to low prices. Customs authorities have met with farmers to know the details of the situation and the origin of the Peruvian rice.
According to Mario Moncayo, rice farmer from Arenillas, it is often the case that the Peruvian grain crosses the border and is bagged like national rice to be traded in the country. The Senae Regional Director (National Customs Service of Ecuador), along with the Customs Deputy Minister recently visited the area and reported on the situation, in addition to increasing controls and coordinate measures with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and fishing.
