Cordicom requests Secom to suspend transmission of Alfonso Espinosa

Posted On 03 Aug 2014

cartaThe Council for the Regulation and Development of Information and Communication (Cordicom) ordered this August 2 to the National Secretariat of Communication (SECOM for its Spanish acronym) the suspension of the transmission of the audiovisual piece that alludes to the Ecuavisa Journalist Alfonso Espinosa de los Monteros and his condition as an older person.

The document sent by the President of Cordicom Patricio Barriga and the Secretary of Communication  Fernando Alvarado Espinel,  indicates that the principles of the freedom of expression of the people of Ecuador are respected, but they are also aware “that this democratic freedom has limits to prevent damage to the rights of individuals. ”

The application responds to a letter sent by Ecuavisa to Secom with a copy to Cordicomin which points out the decision of the TV network to refrain from transmitting the audiovisual pieces called ‘Citizenship speaks to the media’, considering “that its content can affect rights.”
