Correa about Yasuní: “We need the money to overcome poverty”
Posted On 24 Apr 2014
In an interview with the Barcelona newspaper `La Vanguardia´ and published this Thursday, President Rafael Correa spoke about the exploitation of the Yasuni Amazonian reserve and stated that `the country has no other way´ and `we need the money to overcome poverty ´.
Correa said that approving the oil drilling in Yasuni was `the hardest decision´ of his seven years in office.
In his statements, the Ecuadorian president also lashed out against the activists who collect signatures to subject the project to a referendum.
`I’m not going to fall into the trap of these groups that today request a consultation on Yasuni, tomorrow on the water law and are opposed to everything because of politicking. The 90% are the same troublemakers,´ he said.
