Correa clarifies that tariffs will not affect the poor and will repeal the use of cameras in motels
President Rafael Correa assured this March 11 in Manabi that the new tariffs will not affect to the poor. He also said he will order ‘to repeal’ the measure that seeks to implement cameras in motels.
Correa stated that the new tariffs, which govern from March 11 over 2800 goods and imports, will not affect to the poor. “How many poor people do not consume Ambato apples but rather the imported?” said Correa. He also assured that the safeguards will not apply to consumer goods.
Likewise, he assured that safeguards have been imposed on tariff headings “of domestic production.”
With regards to the measure of cameras in motels, he referred saying: “That would mean invading the privacy of citizens,” but clarified that he would request to these establishments to hire security guards.
