Correa conditions reform to increase oil revenues for the Amazon
During the last nation-wide broadcast, President Rafael Correa noted a reform on the Act 010 to increase oil revenues for the Amazon. This region receives one dollar for every barrel of oil extracted, according to the regulation.
Correa said that they could increase to $ 2 per barrel, but “(the Assembly and local opposition authorities) should all bring me a signed commitment to support responsible oil drilling and mining, and that includes their political parties, Pachakutik and MPD, (otherwise) I will not pass the bill.”
Correa explained that over oil revenues, every year local governments in the region have received an additional $ 200 million to their budget and asked the residents of these areas to require for accountability on that budget.
