Correa in Chone: “Give them back their tuna can, give them back their alms, we do not need them!”
Correa has expressly referred to the electoral campaign. “That is what is at stake on April 2, two visions of the society. A country of charity, where an elite thinks it owns the country and that others have no rights, they think that citizens are mere customers.”
Correa has sharply questioned the electoral offerings of the opposition leader Guillermo Lasso, in particular, the proposal to create free health zones (to exempt hospitals and sanitary facilities from taxes), the creation of one million jobs in four years (something Correa has deemed impossible) and the reduction of taxes. “Be informed! The list of taxes they want to reduce, the first six, are only for them, for the rich. I ask: who are the ones who sends money abroad? No one! It’s for them; they want to save money! Another tax they want to eliminate is for assets abroad. Who are the ones who have apartments or condominiums in Miami? They are the people who want to save money…”
