State media offers more spaces for candidates of the government party

Posted On 06 Mar 2017
According to a report by the Ecuadorian Media Observatory (OME), a Fundamedios project, candidates of the PAIS (AP) party and other political movements that support them had more exposure in the public media than the hopefuls of the other political groups last January.
Six State media were monitored, which resulted in 199 information spaces that favored presidential candidate Lenin Moreno, from a sample of 456. Among the media analyzed in this study are: two television channels (Gama TV And TC Television), two digital media (Agencia Andes and El Ciudadano), Daily El Telégrafo and Radio Pública.
Moreno and the AP candidates accumulated 27% of the space, followed by Cynthia Viteri of the PSC (12%) and Guillermo Lasso of CREO (9%), while the National Electoral Council (CNE) also entered with 58 spots on its work in these elections, which are equivalent to 8% of the sample.
