Correa is in favor of punishing under-age criminals
Last Saturday, during his regular nation-wide broadcast, President Rafael Correa spoke about the escape of 13 minors from the Internment Center for Juvenile Offenders in Riobamba, on June 1.
Correa expressed his anger towards the adolescents, who according to him, killed a young policeman and killed a married couple that apparently would have recognized them in the province of Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas.
“Can you call adolescents to this kind of youth? These are murderers. These guys are criminals, they are a danger to society and they should be the punished as they deserve,” said Correa, who in turn said that the sanction should be related with the gravity of the offense and not with age.
Finally urged the Plenary of the Assembly to analyze the Criminal Code and “perform in the common welfare.”
