Court changed the criminal figure and the Prosecutor’ s office will insist on Isaías brothers extradition
During the afternoon of Wednesday October 29, the Board of the National Criminal Court notified to the defenders ofthe Filanbancoformer owners William and Roberto Isaias Dassum, that the appeal they presented was denied. The decision was made by the judges Gladys Teran, Lucy Blacio and Jorge Blum.
What they did modify was the criminal figure to bank embezzlement. It was found, they said, “that the law was violated by misinterpretation.” However, the conviction of eight years in prison was upheld, but with no option to mitigation, when recognizingthere was a generic aggravating: the violation committed in gang.
Xavier Castro, Lawyer of Roberto Isaias at the trial and procurator of both brothers, announced that over the next 20 days he willsubmit an extraordinary protection action before the Court to “challenge all violations of constitutional rights and due process committed by the ordinary justice.”
The Prosecutor Galo Chiriboga, meanwhile, announced that he will insist on the extradition of the Isaias brothers, who currently reside in the United States. “Hope is the last to die,” he said.
