Court will address the ‘habeas corpus’ of protesters against reforms
Three judges of the Labour Chamber of the Provincial Court of Pichincha revise today, from 09:50, the writ of habeas corpus filed by the defense of the 21 protesters sentenced to 15 days in prison for allegedly “uttering expressions of discredit or disgrace “against four police officers during the protests against the amendments on Thursday.
Julio Sarango, part of the defense of the detainees, indicated that the appeal seeks the immediate release of the 21 people, as the judge of the flagrancy unit who ordered the sanction, according to him, was not competent to solve the case, since a judge of the contraventions unit should be in charge.
Yesterday, from Greece, the World Federation of Trade Unions sent a letter to President Rafael Correa demanding the immediate release of the detained trade unionist Edgar Sarango, president of the Confederation of Workers of Ecuador.
