Criminal Code will be sent to the Executive by the end of month
The president of the National Assembly, Gabriela Rivadeneira, offered the approval of the new Criminal Code and its sending to the Executive this November 28, to be approved or vetoed.
This will be done while an intermediate point to criminalise wrongful death due to medical malpractice is still being pursued, which can guarantee the exercise of this profession and the rights of patients simultaneously.
Rivadeneira confirmed, after discussions between doctors and the Executive, to reconsider the vote on the first three books that will open the door to change the texts of the articles about professional malpractice, and other injuries. The president of the Assembly also said the “aspiration” is to carry out tables for dialogue between the two functions of the State, doctors and the victims in order to conclude with a new text.
From tomorrow until Friday November 8, the full Assembly is due to debate the book Execution and final provisions including sanctions for juvenile offenders , if necessary.
