The leaders of the group of workers, indigenous and social movements will assess tomorrow the demonstration of last Thursday and will settle the date of the national strike against the constitutional amendments.
The concentration site will be Malecón del Salado (9 de Ocubre y Tungurahua), from 09:00.
Pablo Serrano, president of the Unitary Workers Front (FUT), tentatively indicated that the strike would take place in December 1st and 2nd. “Our intention is to paralyze the country on the date to be determined in this convention,” he said.
Meanwhile, José Villavicencio, from the General Union of Workers of Ecuador (UGTE) said that Thursday´s mobilization was successful. He said that the date was chosen to commemorate the workers who died in November 15, 1922.
Villavicencio advanced that they plan to discuss a resolution to qualify as “traitors to the country” to the leaders of the Labor Parliament and the Unique Workers´ Central (CUT), to assert that there is no affectation of the workers’ rights in the process of constitutional amendments.
The leaders of these groups ruled out that after the “struggle” to achieve the file of constitutional amendments an electoral political action for 2017 is defined.
