Dismissal of judges of the Court in 2004 was illegal, according to Torres
Assemblyman Luis Fernando Torres, of the Social Christian Party (PSC), said that “it is ridiculous that eleven years after the Supreme Court was expelled someone still have the nerve to boast of the dismissal that has been internationally condemned, by none other than the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
“To say that such dismissal was legal and constitutional does not make sense as the Court says in its judgment that the 52 congressmen who voted acted as an ad hoc tribunal, violated the human rights and the judicial independence. What happened on December 8, 2004 should never be repeated again, when the Supreme Court was dismissed unlawfully, unconstitutionally, and three months later with Executive Order the President at the time (Lucio Gutiérrez), knocked the “pichicourt.”
