Posted On 23 Aug 2011
An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 shook the eastern coast of the United States and Canada, from Virginia to Toronto, shaking buildings and forcing the evacuation of the Pentagon and the Capitol in Washington.
Initial damage reports from Washington included the central tower at the National Cathedral and Ecuador’s embassy.
Two nuclear reactors near the epicenter were taken offline as a precaution, officials said. No damage was reported at either.
