Fukushima Surroundings will be Uninhabited for Years
The Japanese government confirmed that several areas around nuclear power plant in Fukushima 1 may be inhabited for a “long time” due to the high levels of radioactivity, 25 times over the safety limit.
After the earthquake and tsunami occurred last March 11th, this plant was severely affected that is why it has continued to issue strong percentage of radioactivity. Because of this, in this zone of 20km around the plant; over 30,000 people were evacuated.
An official report of the Executive of Naoto Kan, announced that next Tuesday he will resign his post because of the management of the worst nuclear crisis affecting the world since Chernobyl in 1986.
“We cannot deny the possibility that some residents may not be able to return home for a long time despite our efforts. I deeply apologize for it,” said Yukio Edan, government spokesman. (BG)
