Ebola case in Spain could arise from carelessness in medical procedures
Spain confirmed this Wednesday to the European Union (EU) that “at this time it is unclear” how happened the first Ebola infection in the EU, produced in the Iberian country.
Among the hypotheses it is included “the relaxation of procedures,” including the handling of the corpse (of the missionary Miguel García Viejo) or “the collection of medical waste,” reported the EU spokesman after the meeting of the European Committee of Health Security.
The committee expects its next meeting on October 17.
The meeting was attended by experts of the Member States of the European Commission, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the World Health Organization.
For their part, Spanish authorities informed to the Member States of the research on the source of contamination and the tracking of people who treated with the nursing assistant, who is infected with the virus.
