ECTV Sues Palacio
Ecuador TV, state tv station better known as ECTV, filed a lawsuit against former editor of Opinion of El Universo newspaper, Emilio Palacio, in the Court of Guayas.
This is a private prosecution made by Enrique Arosemena, general manager of ECTV, who states that Palacio made a “false” and “offensive” statement when he called the channel “propaganda machine paid by the government to insult …”. He also called journalist Gustavo Espinoza “fascist”, during a press conference on July 21st, at the El Universo newspaper headquarters.
According to the lawsuit, the tv network “has a whole variety of educational and community-oriented programs, as well as analysis and interviews, that does not insult any citizen, but informs and communicates with fairness, using the freedom we guarantee in our Constitution, without ignoring the truth …”.
