Ecuador: 5 years in prison for the #ComeCheques (#CheckEater) Minister

Judges changed the penal type of the defendant and that partially proved him right to defense.

Former Sports Minister Raul Carrion accumulated yesterday the third criminal judgment against him, but in this time, the judges of the National Court of Justice (CNJ) did not accept the theory of the prosecution and changed the figure of embezzlement by influence peddling. Therefore, they imposed a sentence of five years in prison.

The decision of the judges was met with some satisfaction by the defense lawyer, Erwin Blum, who said he would wait for the notification of the written decision, but anticipated he will request an extension and clarification of the verdict.
