Ecuador Adds to the Countries that Threaten the Free Speech
“The pressure of some Governments is more dangerous than the organized crime.” According to reports, the 67% of American journalists believe that the free speech is threatened thanks to a study published in the 68th General Assembly of the Inter-American Press (SIP for its Spanish acronym), which was celebrated in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
According to the polls, the country that is a bigger threat against the free speech is Venezuela with the 82%, followed by Argentina (62%), Cuba (60%), Ecuador (60%), Bolivia (41%) and Mexico (39%). From these countries, four are members of the Alba.
Recent studies showed that the Government pressure the press and limit their work with judicial sentences (28%), the 9% is censured by the organized crime and 7% belong to the Legislative Power. In some cases several journalists have lost their lives. AV
