The presidents of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, and Russia, Vladimir Putin, expressed their mutual interest in establishing a manufacturing plant for the Sputnik V and Sputnik Light vaccine to counter the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lasso made the announcement after a telephone conversation he had with Putin, which he described as “positive.”
“We have addressed priority issues for both countries, with special attention to the joint fight against COVID. We have created a roadmap for the benefit of both countries, which includes the mutual interest of establishing a manufacturing plant for the Sputnik V and Sputnik Light vaccine,” said the Ecuadorian president.
The presidents also discussed railway, energy and oil investment projects, and Lasso added that work will be resumed to have a free trade agreement with Russia and the Eurasian Economic Community.
“I have invited President Putin to visit Ecuador and deepen this bilateral relationship that has more than 76 years,” concluded Lasso, in an official statement. (I)
