Ecuador confirms visit of chancellors and secretary of UNASUR to Venezuela
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ricardo Patino, confirmed through his Twitter account the visit of a delegation of three chancellors and the secretary of UNASUR, Ernesto Samper, to Venezuela, a country shaken by an economic crisis and the government´s complaints about an alleged conspiracy. The appointment is scheduled for Friday, March 6.
Patiño did not elaborate about the diplomatic mission that will travel to Caracas, but official sources consulted by the AFP agency under reserve said that they will “probably” be the foreign ministers of Colombia, Ecuador and Brazil.
In the last days, Patiño expressed the intention of UNASUR -whose secretariat is in Quito- to retake the diplomatic initiatives to avoid a “destabilization in Venezuela.”
For its part, the Ecuadorian government has offered total support to Nicolás Maduro and denounced the “economic war” and “media attacks” the country faces.
