Ecuador exported around 15,342,766 boxes of mangoes during the 2021 season, which began in the first week of September 2021 and ended in the second week of January this year.

Agrocalidad had a team of 60 trained technicians to attend the fruit packing plants and certify processes such as: fruit reception, packaging, certification, hydrothermal treatment and container dispatch.

This, as reported this Thursday by the Phytosanitary and Zoosanitary Regulation and Control Agency (Agrocalidad), which pointed out that varieties such as Tommy Atkins, Haden, Kent, Keith, Ataulfo, Nan Doc May, Francique and Naomi were exported, and that the United States is the most important market, followed by Colombia.

The institution assured that there are currently 95 registered production sites for export, which represent 5,858.52 hectares, distributed as follows: 91.35% in Guayas, 6.85% in Los Ríos, 1.2% in El Oro and 0.6% in Saint Helena.

These mango plantations have a surveillance system to monitor fruit flies, an essential requirement for export to the main international markets. In addition, this monitoring, which is developed jointly between Agrocalidad and the Mango Foundation of Ecuador (FME), has been recognized by international phytosanitary organizations from the US, Mexico and Chile during their visits to the country.
