Ecuador Invites the WikiLeaks Founder
The Chancellor Ricardo Patiño confirmed that the government invitation for Julian Assange, founder of the website WikiLeaks, is legitimate. Assange would be able to expose the secret documents the United States has regarding Latin America.
“I think it is legitimate for a government and people like Ecuador to know what has in relation to our country, what important information we might have,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Patiño stated: “Quito is interested to know the actions that members of the right society of North America might have regarding the nations of the continent.”
The diplomat pointed out that Ecuador invites Assange to learn from the source of information and it would evaluate the conditions for a residence permit.
Chancellor Patiño confirmed that they are interested on the information however, they have no intention on spying others. The document would be studied legally. “We are saying this publicly and openly, we are not doing espionage like others permanently do and besides we don’t have bad intentions,” Informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The invitation for Assange and the idea of giving him a residence permit is without any conditions, was first proposed on Monday by the Vice Chancellor Kintto Lucas. Sweden denied the residence permit to Assange on October. Since Sunday Wikileaks is publishing thousands of documents of intelligence regarding the U.S. diplomacy.
