Google Edition is Ready
Internet giant Google will finally launch Google editions, an e-book service that was supposed to be introduced in the summer of 2010 but due to technical and legal hurdles, the launching was interrupted.
Scott Dougall, Google’s product management director, affirmed the e-book service would be available in the United States by the end of the year, and it will be launched internationally in the first quarter of 2011.
“Because of the complexity of this project, we didn’t want to come out with something that wasn’t thorough,” Dougall said.
Google Edition opens read anywhere e-books which are not tied to any specif device (such as kindle).
1290 million people in the U.S. use Google services per month, which is why analysts project digital book sales to raise from $301 million (2009) to $966 million (2010).
