Ecuador is the main financier of the Unasur since its inception

Ernesto Samper says goodbye to Unasur. He was in charge of the Secretariat since September 2014. According to the budget of the institution this year, available on the website of Unasur, he receives a salary of USD 15,000 per month. Its functions are to propose initiatives and follow up the decisions of their bodies. Also to coordinate with other entities of integration and international cooperation, among others.

The money to cover the Secretary´s remuneration comes from the contribution of the Member States. According to those approved budgets in the past six years, all the members have contributed USD 50 952 059 in total. With this staff costs, materials and supplies, general services, real long-term support for observation missions and joint initiatives funds are covered . The quantity in installments, of Ecuador´s total contribution, is the sum of USD 3,121,842 (see chart) in the same period.
