Ecuador obtains nine medals in the Paralympic Grand Prix of Tunisia

Ecuador shone in the World Para Athletic Grand Prix Tunis 2021, after lifting nine medals in the qualifying competition for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo. The tricolor delegation obtained four gold, four silver and one bronze medals, in what ended as a successful participation.

Ecuador obtains nine medals in the Paralympic Grand Prix of Tunisia

Ecuador participated in the event, held in Tunisia, with the goal of obtaining results to directly access the ecumenical event that will be held between August and September in the capital of Japan. The Guayaquil athlete Kiara Rodríguez won two gold medals in the long jump modality and in the 100 meter dash. Rodríguez sealed his place in the Paralympics.

The Grand Prix was attended by 16 athletes with physical disabilities, who will also travel to Italy for another competition scheduled in April. The Azuayo Darwin Castro was another of the national figures, thanks to the gold and bronze medals in the 5,000 flat meters.

According to the Sports Secretariat, the investment made for the training, equipment and maintenance of these athletes for the Tunis Grand Prix was $ 128,700. With this item they covered operating expenses, which resulted in sporting triumphs for the country.

President Lenín Moreno congratulated the champions for their efforts and on his Twitter account reminded them that they are a source of pride for Ecuador for the perseverance they show in each competition. Paralympic sport is a new opportunity for athletes with disabilities, but they are overcome every day.
