The Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry has signed a cooperation agreement with three other ministries to ensure that 36 Ecuadorian prisoners in the United States complete their sentences in Ecuador.
This is the “largest repatriation made to date,” according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility.
Cases total 661 people deprived of their liberty in the United States, of which 76 percent are for crimes related to drug trafficking and 15 are women.
The agreement will facilitate the transport of convicts according to the highest safety standards “and within the framework of the protection of human rights,” says a communiqué from the Ministry. (I)
